ChatGPT & Codex Setup
ChatGPT and Codex setup for small business, one-on-one on Zoom.
“I pay for ChatGPT and mostly use it like a search box. I hear Codex can build things, and I don't know where to start.”
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent, the part of ChatGPT that builds things: it reads your files, writes the code, runs it and shows you the result. Most owners who pay for ChatGPT have never opened it. In one hands-on $299 hour on Zoom, we set ChatGPT up around your business, get Codex working on your machine and build one real thing together. After that, help is $125 an hour whenever you want it.
We use Codex and Claude Code in the businesses we run, every working day.
What Codex is, in plain English
Codex is made by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. You describe what you want in plain English, and it does the work inside a project: reading the files, writing the code, running it and reporting back. It runs in the ChatGPT desktop app, on the web, in a terminal, inside code editors and in the cloud, and you sign in with your ChatGPT account.
Owners use it to build the small tools nobody sells: a quote calculator, an inventory counter, a report that pulls itself together every Monday, or a fix to a website they already have.
Get more from the ChatGPT you already pay for
- Your business loaded in once: what you sell, your prices, how you talk. So you stop explaining it every time.
- A project for each part of the business, with the right files attached.
- A custom GPT for a job you repeat, like quotes or customer replies.
- Codex for the jobs that need something built, not just written.
How to use Codex: the short version
- Open Codex and sign in with your ChatGPT account.
- Point it at one project. It works on what's in that project.
- Say what you want in plain English, and ask for a plan before it changes anything.
- Read what it proposes, approve it, then check the result yourself.
- Write your rules in a file called AGENTS.md in the project, so it follows them every time.
Where owners get stuck
- Finding Codex in the first place, and knowing which version to use.
- It built something, and now it won't run anywhere but your laptop.
- It changed something you didn't ask it to change.
- You're not sure which ChatGPT plan you need, or why you keep hitting a limit.
- You don't know what's safe to connect: your email, your files, your accounts.
What we do in the hour
- Set ChatGPT up around your business, on the plan that fits how you work.
- Get Codex running on your machine and signed in.
- Write your rules file together: what your business does, how you talk, and what it must never do.
- Set its approvals, so it asks before anything that matters.
- Build one real thing from your actual week, start to finish.
- You drive and we coach. By the end of the hour you've done it yourself, on your own computer.
Guardrails first
The same tool that can build an app can also change or delete your files. Before anything gets built, we set what it's allowed to do on its own and what always waits for your yes. We keep it working inside one project, and anything that reaches a customer or touches money stays with you.
Already started and stuck halfway?
Bring the project. Plenty of owners get an app most of the way there with Codex, Lovable or Replit and then hit a wall: it works on their laptop and nowhere else, the login breaks, or one fix breaks two other things. An hour on Zoom at $125 is usually enough to find out what's wrong and what it would take to finish. If finishing it is a real build, we'll quote it plainly.
What the support covers, and what it doesn't
The 14 days of email support are there to help you build your next two things on your own, and to fix, tighten and answer questions along the way. They don't cover building new systems by email. If you want something built for you, that's a build, and we'll quote it plainly.
We use it in our own work
This isn't theory. We use Codex alongside Claude Code in the businesses we run, and the websites, apps and agents on this site were built with these tools. What we show you is how we actually work with them.
Codex or Claude Code?
Claude Code is Anthropic's version of the same idea, and it comes with a Claude plan. For most owners the right pick is the one that matches the subscription they already pay for. We set up both, and we wrote a plain comparison if you're deciding.
Rather have it built for you?
Some owners don't want to learn it. They want it done. We build simple apps from $499 and single agents from $499, paid once, with setup and 30 days of direct access to us included. The free 30-minute AI audit is the fastest way to find out which makes more sense for you.
Anywhere in the U.S.
Sessions are on Zoom with your screen shared, so we work with owners anywhere in the country. In Denver and Pittsburgh, we're happy to sit down in person.
Questions owners ask
What is Codex?
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent. You describe what you want in plain English and it reads your files, writes the code, runs it and shows you the result.
Is Codex part of ChatGPT?
You sign in to Codex with your ChatGPT account. Which plan you need depends on how much you'll use it, and we'll tell you before you pay for anything.
How do I use Codex?
Open it, sign in, point it at one project and say what you want in plain English. Ask for a plan first, approve it, then check the result. Our $299 session does that with you and builds one real thing.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You need to be able to describe what you want and check the result. We teach you how to ask for a plan first and when to say no.
Can you set up ChatGPT for my whole team?
Yes. Bring whoever will use it. Team setup beyond the first session is $125 an hour on Zoom.
Can you help me finish an app I started?
Yes. Bring it to a $125 Zoom hour. We'll find what's broken and tell you what it takes to finish.
Can you just build it for me?
Yes. Simple apps start at $499 and single agents start at $499, paid once.
